Diary
Thursday 15th November:
Today we were told to what we had to add to our single camera film. This mean't we had to look into post production and the elements that go into it.
Thursday 22nd November:
We had created a mood board where we incorporated pictures that are involved in the making of our 1 minute movie. We also discussed the Mise en scene in the 1 minute video and finalised the idea of the film. Everything was talked about between me and Samsia and we decided to create a storyboard from which we could describe our film and also look at when we come to make our film.
Thursday 6th December:
Props and setting were discussed within the group were we decided to have two different bedrooms, 2 different living rooms, a park or a restaurant. Style and the narrative was decided and we came to the conclusion that the film was going to be a romantic comedy.
Thursday 13th December:
A proposal has been written up and then presented onto a prezi. Information was gathered throughout our whole team and ideas were finalised. In the end we discussed our plot and came up with our middle beginning, middle and end. Moral of the story was discussed plus we finally identified our audience. We then went onto the net and found pictures which would create an effective mood board.
Thursday 20th December:
The team have discussed the location list and have got images from sources such as google maps to demonstrate where we will be filming.
Thursday 10th January:
The team had finally secured all the locations and had made sure that we had full permission from the home owners in order to film there. This means that we can now go ahead filming because we now know whoever the characters are we have locations for them to be filmed in.
Thursday 17th January:
We started filming today. The team had to take a bus to the first location which was in my house. We filmed several scenes which will be mostly implemented into a 1 minutes movie.
Thursday 24th January:
I was set to edit the first scenes that we had filmed the week before. The rest of the team such as marian and samsia went put to film the next scene for the female. I finished the first part of the film and then added the next scenes when marian and samsia were done.
Thursday 31st January:
Final day for filming and seeing that the weather was nice we decided to go to our final location which was swanswell park. Even though it was very windy we carried on filming but we are hoping the sound comes out very clear.
Thursday 7th January:
The team had finished filming so final touch ups were added to the rest of the editing. soundtracks were decided and shots were cleared. The film was finally assembled with the a few minor problems with sound which we can change next time round.

Tasks
Storyboard
Props:
- Computer and computer accessories/ maybe a laptop - to show the two people using the social network while they are talking to each other.
- Cups, files, folders, tables, chairs, etc - Emphasise on setting and bring in the audience closer to the characters to give them a essence of how the characters live life.
- Make up/cosmetics - To show a house of a girl so you can see that she likes to do everything and everyday things that girls would usually do.
- Phones - For communication over a phone call or text.
Setting and location:
- 2 different houses - One has to be a the boys house and the other has to be the girls house.
- 2 different bedrooms - One has to look like a boys bedroom and the other has to look like the girls bedroom. Each bedroom is going to show lifestyle and give us a sense of what the characters are like.
- 2 different living rooms - When we have the spilt screen of the two characters they will be sitting in their living room.
- Park- The park will be used to introduce the two characters. They will first meet in the park and this is where the film will also end.
- Restaurant- This location maybe used if the PARK is not used. Finding permission to film inside a restaurant is hard so we might have to result in shooting in the PARK. The reason we have chosen the restaurant is because people usually go on dates to somewhere they can eat like a restaurant so thats why we wanted to film inside a restaurant where the couple would finally meet.
Style and narrative structure:
- Romantic comedy (spoof/parody) - based on comedic romantic themes (because of attraction between the boy and girl, but comedy as it is not how they expect)
- linear, multi strand, realist narrative - it is a linear narrative because it will be in sequential/chronological order, it is multi-strand because it is the story is based on more than one characters and it is a realist structure because it will be based on real life situations.
The disadvantages on the styles of our SC production is that the story may be predictable and the audience may find it repetitive as a similar story has been done before, but we will add techniques such as split screen and effects to make it original.
Romantic Comedy -
We had chosen to do a spoof of a romantic film because we thought of a great idea that would attract so many different viewers. The reason we have thought of this genre is because people like the essence of love and comedy mixed into one film. The way the film is going to be a Rom-Com is the fact the boy and girl like each other but the comedy will be on how they embark on their relationship and how it all climaxes.
Linear narrative because it will follow a chronological order which is beginning, middle and end. Multi strand because there isn't just one main character, the film is based on two lead roles. Structure could also be Realist because the story is based on real life events that have and can take place.
Costumes:
Boy - Trendy clothes must be worn by the boy. These include the latest trends such as chinos, winter jumpers and aztec tops.
Girl - Must be in geeky clothes. No trend with no colour co-ordination between her clothes. Must have no sense of style plus has to wear grandma shoes.

Location list:
The locations that we have chosen are two houses which are the boys and the girls. The second location we will be using is two different living rooms to show two different houses for both boy and girl. The final location for the film is going to be

Equipment list:
During filming, the items of equipment that we need are the Nikon HD Camera and Tripod. We have realised that we don't need no back or key lighting as we want to keep the scenes looking natural and we will use room lights or natural sunlight. We also need to take into consideration the sound effects for our product, so we may need to get microphones.
Risk assessment
1. identify the hazards
The hazards that might be involved within the production of our media product are just minor injuries like tripping over wires and injuring on appliances. But no major harm and hazards will be a threat.
- Park - uneven surfaces/flooring, animals (e.g. dogs and birds), young children and families, park activities/equipment e.g. slide, swings, etc and family accessories, e.g. pushchairs, balls, scooters/bikes.
- Bedroom/house/living room - uneven surfaces, tripping over props e.g. chairs, lifting heavy equipment.
- Restaurant - uneven surfaces, other members of public (disruption and can cause injuries), hot food and drink (burning harm), sharp utensils (knives, forks, etc).
2. decide who might be harmed
The people who may be harmed are the filming crew and the actors/actresses in the product.
3. Precautions and solutions
The precautions and solutions that we can do to ensure the safety of the people involved in the production of the film are making sure we follow safety procedures when handling goods, and putting up signs and informing people of any hazards available.

Examples of Single camera techniques
Teen
Lizzie Maguire - Clue Less
As the scene starts off you can see a panning shot that is dropped down from the tree to the front door of the house. There is an Non-Diegetic sound in the background of music which is rather lively so it is getting you into that joyful mood. A boy and a girl walk out of the front door and no other shot is taken here to show them individually coming out. If there were multiple camera's in this shot you could of had shots of them both walking out and close-ups or mid-shots of their faces and what their wearing. As the scene goes on the girl looks behind herself and slowly closes the door behind her. All of this is caught on one angle and scene. The girl then talks to the boy when then a cut scene is taken to an over the shoulder shot of the boy responding to the girl. For a couple of seconds throughout their conversation there are over the shoulder shots of both the male and the female and some mid shots of the two to show their hand movements and body language. All of this would have been taken by one camera and would have been repeated for about 4-5 times to get all the scenes.

From the start of this clip you can see that there is a diagonal mid-shot which is displaying both characters. As the scene flicks through transition the camera is moving with the dark haired man followed by a still mid-shot of the other man. To improve this they could of had the shot as an over the shoulder shot and then a mid-shit of both the characters when the dark haired man bends down to put the towels away. In one of the shots the camera moves into the position of a over the shoulder shot. This transition could be bettered by having the shot already over the shoulder and not moving into that direction. There is a conversation between two couples which i noticed because of the shot they used. When they are showing the lead role players the camera is set between the other couple displaying a mid shot of the lead roles.

Single camera techniques
A single camera production is when only one camera is used to shoot a film or television programme. A huge difference between single camera set-ups and multiple camera set-ups is the order that they’re shot in, for example multiple camera set-ups are filmed chronologically whereas single camera set-ups mean that the shots will be shot in the order of flexibility and will be put in order during editing. An advantage of using a single-camera set-up as opposed to a multiple-camera set-up would be that it is cheaper and this is what makes it popular with producers who are working with a low budget; this is the case because you only need one camera as opposed to three or four like a multiple camera set-up. Another advantage of a single camera set-up is that with using one camera you don’t have to worry about other cameras being in shot. However if you use multiple cameras it is less flexible because you have to take into consideration where the other camera are positioned.
Using a single camera set-up means you will spend less time editing because all the footage is on one camera. Programmes like The Office, Ugly Betty and Scrubs all are shot by a single camera set-up. Multiple Camera set-ups are generally used by bigger studios for example Eastenders is shot with multiple camera set-up. There is one big disadvantage to filming with one camera and that is that it takes a lot longer because the cameraman needs to film the same scene over and over again from different aspects, however with a multiple set-up this is not the case. Multiple camera set-ups are usually used in soaps this is because single camera set-ups are much more difficult to film conversations with which could mean reactions of other characters are lost.
